Mountain biking is hotting up in Scotland this summer!

We have just returned from a busy few weeks in the Highlands of Scotland where summer has been hotting up, with twoMountain bike holiday in Scotland separate groups enjoying the thrills and spills of Torridon and Skye, a coast-to-coast, the Fort William mountain bike world cup and Anthill films joining us for a week in the Highlands of Scotland.

During the two weeks that our groups spent in the Torridon and Skye area we had a wide array of weather, from clear blue skies to 10 meter visibility in the cloud whilst riding the Quiraing on Skye.  We have had clients from the UK, US, Belgium and Germany on these trips, and the were all blown away by the diverse terrain, culture and weather that we have here in Scotland.

One other aspect that customer always comment on is the amazing food and accommodation we have in Scotland, and that is not down to H&I Adventures, but down to the small businesses around the Highlands who are committed to providing a first class and world-renowned service.  What we do, is the leg work for you, we research the best places to stay, eat and ride your bike to produce the whole mountain bike package, so you don’t have to!

Mountain biking in ScotlandAt this years world cup round at Fort William, we were treated to all the usual thrills and spills that this event has become known for over the past ten years.  And to spice things up a little, before this years event there was large cash injection to allow some course changes to take place, these included a new start hut and a rather large and technically difficult gap jump.  With most of the track changes taking place on the second half of the course, this is where the race was either won or lost, and it was proving to be a challenge for the worlds best riders.  And this year we had a lot to shout about with Britain’s reigning World Champion Tracy Moseley taking the women’s crown while South African legend Greg Minnaar won the men’s, as well as securing his 50th downhill world cup podium place, ahead of Briton Danny Hart (aged 19) who achieved his best ever result at senior level in front of an ecstatic home crowd.

And as for our Anthill trip, well yours truly might not be getting a starring role in their new movie ‘Strength in numbers’ but we did get to show the guys the amazing scenery and trails in the Scottish Highlands, as well as the atmosphere at the world cup round at Fort William.  So watch this space for further information on their new movie!

Until next time, Ride on!

Peaty, Hans Rey and Danny MacAskill signed picture auction

Don’t miss your chance to bid for a one-of-a-kind, signed photo of three mountain bike legends; Hans Rey, Steve Peat and Danny MacAskill, taken on their recent trip to Scotland with us. Their five day mountain bike trip around the Highlands included a heli-drop in Torridon, where the photo was taken.

The trio signed the picture, taken by expert mtb photographer Andy McCandlish, and a copy of World Champion Peaty’s new book to raise money through this auction for Hans’ charity, Wheels4Life.  The charity provides bikes for people in developing countries in need of transportation to get to work or to school, or to get the medical attention they need, so your money will go to a very worthwhile cause.

You’ll find the video, write up and photos of the trip at www.mtbholidayscotland.com/news.html

Snowbiking in Scotland

Since the 20th of December snow has been our constant companion here in Inverness.  Now as a keen snowboarder, I am happy, but my mountain biking really is suffering, to the extent that I thought about buying a turbo trainer!? now I just put this down to ‘Cabin fever’, and got the bike out of the garage and went snowbiking! Pictures!

The going was not too bad, if you can ride on the hard packed stuff that people had walked in, but if you were to stray into the foot or so of powder you were finished! Soft landing though.

So on returning to the warmth of the office I got stuck into my video footage from last years mountain biking from around Scotland, and put together a short video of downhill mountain biking in Inverness.  We are hoping this video will bring the dry trails back to us in a hurry! ;-)
