Mountain biking news from the North of Scotland

This week I was away on a Canadian canoe/mtb trip up in the north of Scotland with a few mates.  It was a real

adventure that saw  us crossing Loch Maree to pick up a fantastic trail.  After an hour  we picked up a fantastic singletrack, that I look forward to showing some of our guests later in the month.  Take a look at the pictures!

Then on Thursday we had a family from the US on a day trip in the Cairngorms.  They were very enthusiastic and this was the final fling of their holiday, part of which was spent on the Isle of Skye at a bagpipe summer school, at  Sabhal Mor Ostaig UHI, the country’s only Gaelic collage.

Also we are waiting to hear news on how one of our guides Alex Glasgow (Brittish champion) is getting on at the UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships in Pra Loup, good luck to him!

Highlands and Islands Adventures update

It has been a very exciting couple of weeks at Highlands and Islands Adventures headquarters! First we secured a sponsorship deal with Canadian mountain bike clothing brand, Sombrio and then Fox racing confirmed that they would be supplying us with the fantastic Flux mountain bike helmets.

And while all this excitement was going on, I was lucky enough to be touring the west coast on our West coast adventure holiday, riding some of the best trails that Scotland has to offer! Also you can check out our pictures from this holiday on our Fickr slideshow.

We are also delighted to have teamed up with Dave Webster from Transcend trail academy, to offer some world class mountain bike skills courses in the Highlands of Scotland.  These courses will be held at Laggan wolftrax on the 17th and 18th of October, and to find out more click on the picture below!

West coast mountain biking

This week we have been mountain biking around the west coast of Scotland, one of the most amazing places to mountain bike in Scotland.  Already we have mountain biked below the UK’s heighest mountain, mountain biked along a glacial valley and spotted the Harry Potter train!

And you can see all that we have been upto and the rest of our journey on our Flickr photostream

Mountain biking in Scotland: Canadian style!

We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Sombrio, the Canadian mountain bike apparel brand that we feel complements perfectly what we do here at Highlands and Islands Adventures, that is, ride our mountain bikes on world class trails!

Sombrio are providing our guides with some of the best mountain biking gear available.  Gear that has been designed and tested by world class mountain bikers to go the distance, on anything from shuttle descents, all day epics to soul sessions deep in the woods.

So from now on if you see a very well-dressed mountain bike guide on the Highland trails, they’re probably working for us, wearing Sombrio!

Today I am at Glenmore Lodge running a mountain bike day trip, fantastic mountain biking around this area, see our pictures if you need convincing!  Then back to base to get Bob trailers and kit ready for our Cairngorm experiance that starts tomorrow, this holiday will see us ride 130km around the Cairngorms, and see us camping under the stars, fantastic!

So one way or another over the next six days I will be riding my mountain bike around the Cairngorm National Park!

I will be posting pictures and comments to our Twitter account as and when possible, so watch this space.
